Who is MR. BOJ?..... smackpitarz reveals in this exclusive interview.

Smackpitarz returns with the second episode of Spotlight Interview,  a unique platform created to uncover the hidden talents in the Nigerian Entertainment Industry.
Today he will be hanging out with a dance hall/raggae Mystrol MR BOJ. Seat back and enjoy this exclusive interview.

Lets meet you.

I am Bello Oluwafemi Joseph but popularly known as Mr BOJ

What genre of music do you do?

l do reagea-dancehall  mixed with Afro beat But technically am good in all other genres too.

3. What does music mean to you?

Music means Life to me..”no music, no life”

Talking about your recent feature on
“Maribatise” a great song that has been enjoying airplay both on radio and Tv across the country , tell us how you got featured on the track?

ooh maribatishe(smiling)..I went to make beat for “madam” one of my recent works in the studio when suddenly the producer played the maribatishe beat, l fell in love with the beat and in some minutes the owner came in, meanwhile Mr Theo has been longing for a collaboration with me, so that night he said we should record the song since l like the beat, though l wasn’t prepared for it but wit God the inspiration came and we did it that same night.

How has been the response to the song so far?

The response has been massive been the 1st break in a long time, l get calls all over, some artist from lagos wants me to bless there tracks now.. but am taking my time and that’s why am doing some follow ups to convince them that am not a fry in the Pan.. Laughs

Now let’s talk about your new joint PANDA… Why did you decide to join the league of artistes across the world who did a cover for that song?

l didn’t join them, just trying to make a difference. l changed everything with the beat compared to what all others where doing..putting in the reggea-dancehall feel, you feel me, Am different, l don’t run race with nobody, am made, too blessed to be stressed is what am saying, my style is different and am making that clear.

Maribatise And Panda are both covers, you must be driving at something I guess.

Am not driving at anything, just that as an upcoming you have to pull some stunts to let them know you are Good and most times if u check well, artists who do covers easily get noticed and signed..just playing around with what l have passion for that’s all.

How has been the response to your version of Panda so far?

I have not gotten the response l want for the song yet, though calls are coming in and the song is buzzing online but l need that one call that will change my story, you know what l mean..chikena

Looking at the Nigerian music industry today do you think there is enough space for upcoming artistes to strive?

My brother since the sky is big enough for  birds to fly without disturbing each other, leave matter for matayas, nobody wey no fit to make am, in as much as you believe because it is not the set of artists that were there long time ago that are  still there today, change is a constant thing, not even in this industry that songs don’t last more than 2-3 months. So as an upcoming artiste once you hit it right with a “hit” Lobathan….. LAUGHS

Name 3 artistes that have influenced your music one way or the other.

Faze, Whyclef and 2face

11. What does Mr BOJ need to get to where he wants to be?

GOD over everything ..once GOD lifts you, forget it my brother, every other things will be added sharperly, no delay, who God bless no man can cause. 2baba talk am.

It’s been a while we hear from your label mate “Shegzy” Whats up with Equator Records?

Correction, its Badman shegzy a.k.a Moskilla..he has over 50 songs recorded now, trust me you don’t know what’s coming through, he is currently been managed  by Gutz money Records but still affiliated to Equator Records. My label is working underground and by the time we move overground… eeeeenh..just keep your fingers crossed.. Gbam!!!

You have a very nice body physique,  how have you been able to keep up ur packs… *winks

Hmmmm…. (Laughing)….When am not performing or hustling, l gym to keep the body fit because its part of the Business, sum people love you because of your physique, some because of the music while some love you because of both…the packs didn’t just happen, l worked for it the way I have been working for my music.

Thanks for hanging out with me on this episode of Spotlight Interview. Where can people download your songs and reach out to you on social media?

It's The Return Of The Carnival Man: Wyclef Jean Reemerges With "My Girl"

"It's the first time in history that a presidential candidate has decided to go back and do an album."
For the last decade or so, Wyclef Jean has seemingly devoted the bulk of his energies to political and social causes. However, in 2016 he intends to reenter the musical arena.
During a visit to The FADER's office last December, the Haitian-born artist—who scooted in on a beaming blue hooverboard with an acoustic guitar and a few new demos in tow—revealed intentions to return his focus to music, explaining that he has been "heavily" back in the studio. Today, he officially renters the musical arena with the premiere of a song called "My Girl." (And a Shazam-activated meme generator to match.)
"My Girl" opens with a celebratory chorus of horns and Jean announcing, Ladies and gentlemen, it's the return of the Carnival Man! He goes on to apologize for his leave—I know, I shouldn't have kept you waiting for so long—but once the song starts in ernest, he slips back into a familiar pop-dancehall groove. I'm the Island's Romeo, he sings, serenading his collaborator, Sasha Mari. It's good old Wyclef.
"This song takes me back to my Caribbean roots, this is what a Carnival feels like," said Jean, describing the song to The FADER. And, given the recent boon in Island-indebted pop hits, it is also more or less what the Top 40 sounds like. In returning to his roots, Wyclef has found a perfect entryway back into pop.

Lil Kesh To Drop Album This Wednesday At Industry Nite

Rapper Lil Kesh will be headlining at the weekly industry Nite this wednesday. This comes off the heels of the scheduled release of his upcoming debut album ‘Y.A.G.I’ (Young And Getting It).

The event will also serve as the official album listening party for the album that has collaboration from American rapper, Wale, Ycee, Olamide, Patoranking, Davido and others.
The weekly event sponsored by St-Remy Authentic Brandy will hold at it’s usual venue, Spice Route on Adeola Odeku street, Victoria Island on Wednesday, March 16, 2016.

MUSIC REVIEW: Lil Kesh Ft. Wale – Cause Trouble (Part 2)

very honest, its high time American rapper Wale Folarin goes back to the U.S and not return till he brushes up his verses. He hasn’t really lived up to being an A-list poet whenever he is on a Nigerian song.

Looking back at all his verses on every track he has been featured on here in Nigeria, you can tell they are all trash that’s why those songs haven’t been major as he believed to be an international act.

His music have been shown to considerably boost brain organization and ability in both children and adults as he is respected poet even Jay Z acknowledges that. Does he think we don’t deserve the best and we are illiterates ?

Cause Trouble Pt 2 didn’t need anybody to get its laudable recognition, it was a certified banger immediately it was mixed and mastered. Whatever gave Kesh the inspiration should be made public for consumption.

It is beautiful to hear Lil Kesh go from walking the streets of Bariga to featuring an international act Wale in a space of 3 years, something only a few musicians can boast of and still keep it real with his roots

Cause Trouble is a major club banger which undoubtedly has placed Keshinro Ololade at the helm of his career with him preparing his album Y.A.G.I. ( Young and getting it ). And his verses getting more meaningful with every single track. If you listen to the first verse carefully, he said

“Omo Ita to won Tom Ford ( Area Boy that rocks Tom Ford)”

“See Zanotti sandals , awon ko si dunlop ( I rock Zanotti sandals while they wear dunlop)”

THE STREET IS THE NEW FRESH.

Mr Pheelz the producer should be given an award for that track , he had that Dj Khaled feels with that piano feel.

A certified club banger which will do well with Nigeria. It is a 4 / 5 for me.

Peter Or Paul, Who Will Make It As A Solo Artist?

Why this mess? Who has a hand in this controversy? Has marriage got anything to do with this issue or money sharing? Will They still celebrate birthday together? Will they still leave in the same mansion?

If you are still in dream land over P Square the brand no longer exists. First it was the breaking up with their brother and manager Jude Okoye and now the twin have confirmed the break up of the P Square brand after Peter Okoye twitted his new stage name Mr P and new manager.

Nigerians have seen the break up of musical groups with the most famous of them being the Remedies group. When break ups occur not all the group members on solo end up getting it right. Lets take the Remedies as a case study, one might conclude that Idris and Tetula made it while Mr Brown crashed out.

One can sing more than the other and one can dance more than the other….

Well the big question is this will Paul and Peter both make it as solo artists or will one crash out? Who is your take, Peter or Paul?
