Smackpitarz returns with the second episode of Spotlight Interview, a unique platform created to uncover the hidden talents in the Nigerian Entertainment Industry.
Today he will be hanging out with a dance hall/raggae Mystrol MR BOJ. Seat back and enjoy this exclusive interview.
Lets meet you.
I am Bello Oluwafemi Joseph but popularly known as Mr BOJ
What genre of music do you do?
l do reagea-dancehall mixed with Afro beat But technically am good in all other genres too.
3. What does music mean to you?
Music means Life to me..”no music, no life”
Talking about your recent feature on
“Maribatise” a great song that has been enjoying airplay both on radio and Tv across the country , tell us how you got featured on the track?
ooh maribatishe(smiling)..I went to make beat for “madam” one of my recent works in the studio when suddenly the producer played the maribatishe beat, l fell in love with the beat and in some minutes the owner came in, meanwhile Mr Theo has been longing for a collaboration with me, so that night he said we should record the song since l like the beat, though l wasn’t prepared for it but wit God the inspiration came and we did it that same night.
How has been the response to the song so far?
The response has been massive been the 1st break in a long time, l get calls all over, some artist from lagos wants me to bless there tracks now.. but am taking my time and that’s why am doing some follow ups to convince them that am not a fry in the Pan.. Laughs
Now let’s talk about your new joint PANDA… Why did you decide to join the league of artistes across the world who did a cover for that song?
l didn’t join them, just trying to make a difference. l changed everything with the beat compared to what all others where doing..putting in the reggea-dancehall feel, you feel me, Am different, l don’t run race with nobody, am made, too blessed to be stressed is what am saying, my style is different and am making that clear.
Maribatise And Panda are both covers, you must be driving at something I guess.
Am not driving at anything, just that as an upcoming you have to pull some stunts to let them know you are Good and most times if u check well, artists who do covers easily get noticed and signed..just playing around with what l have passion for that’s all.
How has been the response to your version of Panda so far?
I have not gotten the response l want for the song yet, though calls are coming in and the song is buzzing online but l need that one call that will change my story, you know what l mean..chikena
Looking at the Nigerian music industry today do you think there is enough space for upcoming artistes to strive?
My brother since the sky is big enough for birds to fly without disturbing each other, leave matter for matayas, nobody wey no fit to make am, in as much as you believe because it is not the set of artists that were there long time ago that are still there today, change is a constant thing, not even in this industry that songs don’t last more than 2-3 months. So as an upcoming artiste once you hit it right with a “hit” Lobathan….. LAUGHS
Name 3 artistes that have influenced your music one way or the other.
Faze, Whyclef and 2face
11. What does Mr BOJ need to get to where he wants to be?
GOD over everything ..once GOD lifts you, forget it my brother, every other things will be added sharperly, no delay, who God bless no man can cause. 2baba talk am.
It’s been a while we hear from your label mate “Shegzy” Whats up with Equator Records?
Correction, its Badman shegzy a.k.a Moskilla..he has over 50 songs recorded now, trust me you don’t know what’s coming through, he is currently been managed by Gutz money Records but still affiliated to Equator Records. My label is working underground and by the time we move overground… eeeeenh..just keep your fingers crossed.. Gbam!!!
You have a very nice body physique, how have you been able to keep up ur packs… *winks
Hmmmm…. (Laughing)….When am not performing or hustling, l gym to keep the body fit because its part of the Business, sum people love you because of your physique, some because of the music while some love you because of both…the packs didn’t just happen, l worked for it the way I have been working for my music.
