Boko Haram Members Went From House To House To Kill Prison Officials Who Were Off Duty
Residents of Bama town,
Bama local government area
of Borno state where about 55
persons were kiiled in a fresh
attack said that most of the
insurgents that attacked the
town were Nigerians and
Cameroonians who used local
almajiris to locate their targets.
A resident, Mallam Kolomi Bama who spoke with DailyPost
in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital said, the attackers
followed house to house and killed all the prison officials
aside those killed at their duty post. They burnt down the
whole police barracks where a newly married woman and
three children were roasted. Several cars and motorcycles as
well as domestic animal were also burnt completely. While
four blocks in the Bama Mobile Police unit were razed down,
10 people were also killed including 7 policemen and 3 Boko
Haram members.
He said, the attackers also attempted to attack the military
barracks in Bama but met a brick wall, as the soldiers
seriously repelled the attackers killing 10 of the insurgents
who were mostly dressed in military uniforms, recovering
several AK 47 riffles, RPG, bomb making devices, assorted
ammunitions and gallons of concoctions which was said to
have contained intoxicating substances.
Also an eye witness, a student of the University of Maiduguri
Amina Usman told our DailyPost that the gunmen who came
in hundreds were speaking in Kanuri language. She said they
came in buses and about 16 Hilux vehicles, with anti aircraft
guns mounted on some of the vehicles and attacked various
formations of security operatives and government buildings.
She said the gunmen opened fire on the mobile police base, as
they were trapped by the curfew imposed on the town,
stressing that they have to run helter skelter for their lives, as
the insurgents were pursuing them and opening fire on them
and that the gunmen are mostly foreign nationals guided by
the those who understand the terrain.
Speaking to newsmen at the JTF headquarters, shortly after
inspecting the affected areas, the JTF spokesman Lt. Col.
Sagir Musa said that the insurgents usually wear military
uniforms during their operations that is why civilians always
blame soldiers that they are the ones burning their house,
shops and other business premises even when the insurgents
in military uniforms were the ones that committed the arson.
He said “instead of people to appreciate our efforts they
always condemn us, now let the human right organizations
come to Bama and see the genocide committed by the
insurgents and tell us whether those they killed have no right
to live”.
Meanwhile, the Borno state governor Kashim Shettima who
visted Bama today, expressed sadness with the level of
destruction mated on the people by the insurgence.
He also thank the security operatives for ensuring return of
normalcy in the town and urged the people to always guard
against violence and wantom deatruction of lives and
properties.
He also called on the people to continue to pray for peace as
only peace can bring development.
