Two To Review: Skales – Denge Pose, Mafumay – L.O.V.E

Happy Sunday! Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers. The past week saw a lot of music from artists across Nigeria. Some big names, and some upcoming acts. Here’s 2 I decided to jump on and review: ////Skales – Denge Pose The track starts off very hot! The heavy beat drops and the hooks comes on, and you get the feeling the track is a straight banger ready to explode (which it might very well be), but then the verses start and it kinda takes a downer somewhat, and levels out to the rest of the song. Skales is talented act, but every so often one get the feeling he makes music he thinks people want to hear as opposed to just doing his thing. I guess that’s a music business problem, but somehow this track just seems like it was derived from a generic formula to make a hit song – which isn’t always a bad thing depending on what you trying to do. However the freshness of something creative is always exciting to hear. Ultimately the song could very well be a hit (you just never know with these things), and is not bad, but there’s really nothing on it that makes me want to add it to my playlist. Rating: 6.5/10 . ////Mafumay – L.O.V.E I haven’t heard of Mafumay before (forgive me if she’s not new), but after listening to her track, L.O.V.E, I think I’ll make it a point to remember her. How talented is FlipTyce though? That beat is super infectious and gives this track a very smooth & ‘i want to grind with my madam‘ vibe. On Mafumay’s side she did very well on the hook and the verses were not bad. I do feel like she could’ve done better on the verses though – ‘owned‘ the song more if you will. At some point I felt I was just drifting through the song. But for an rising act with a few singles under the belt, the track is solid, will definitely capture the attention of Radio OAPs, and could creep in and become a mainstream hit (with the right push of course). Rating: 7/10
