JTF Calms Maiduguri Residents Over Purported Circulation Of Boko Haram Threat Letters
The Joint Task Force (JTF) in
Maiduguri, the Borno State
capital with codename
‘Operation Restore Order’,
yesterday denied the purported
letters/ leaflets being circulated
by persons suspected to belong
to Boko Haram threatening
people, especially informants and those supporting security
agencies, that their lives will soon be endangered as the sect
will visit them one by one and kill them in their houses. The
JTF said, the purported leaflets claimed to have been written
and being circulated by Boko Haram members in the state is
not only fake and misleading, but untrue. In a widely
circulated statement from the JTF Headquarters in Pompomari
ward of the metropolis, which were also pasted at strategic
points on Sunday – Schools and Hospitals’ notice boards, a
copy of which was seen by our correspondent, said “The JTF
wish to inform the public that such threatened letters are not
authored truly by Boko Haram sect, but by those who do not
want the relative peace being enjoyed in the state to be
sustained, and therefore urged members of the public to
disregard such threats as the JTF is working round the clock
to ensure peace and unity return back to the troubled state”.
JTF however, said its men are ready to cooperate and continue
to discharge their duties according to the ‘Rules of
Engagement’ so as to rid the state of Boko Haram
insurgencies. The statement also enjoined the general public
to continue to support the JTF with information that will led
to the arrest of any suspected Boko Haram sect in the state,
stressing that any assistance (information) will be treated with
utmost confidentiality.
