Boko Haram: Ceasefire Or Not, Operation Continues Until Otherwise Directed By The FG – Army
As the purported
ceasefire deal
between the Federal Government and the Islamist sect Boko
Haram has now proven to be a facade aimed at covering up
the incompetence of the presidential committee on peaceful
resolution of crisis in the North, with the Boko Haram
leader’s denial of entering into such agreement, Defence
Headquarters in Abuja, yesterday, said the troops will
continue the clampdown on the sect. Besides, the ceasefire
agreement had not been communicated to it.
Director of Defence Information, Brigadier-General Chris
Olukolade noted that the issue of ceasefire was the outcome
of the political element of the attempt to solve the Boko
Haram crisis, adding that questions on the ceasefire should
be directed to the political authority.
“As for the operational aspect, it will be maintained. So far,
there has been no directive to stop the operation. We will
not succumb to any deception whether ceasefire or not until
otherwise directed by government,” Olukolade said.
Flanked by the Director of Naval Information, Commodore
Kabir Aliyu, Director of Air force Public Relations, Air
Commodore Yusuf Anas, Force Spokesman, CSP Frank
Mba and the Spokesperson of the SSS, Marylin Ogar,
Olukolade said the outcome of the assessment teams sent to
the operational areas was to help security agencies analyse
challenges, new trends of the terrorists and come up with
ways of countering them.
On the restoration of GSM services in Borno and Yobe
states, as requested by Yobe State governor, Olukolade said
there was ongoing security evaluation with respect to GSM
services in the two states, pointing out that if things
improved, appropriate steps would be taken in that direction
as was done in the case of Adamawa state.
