G-7 Govs Indispensable – PDP
As the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership prepares to
meet with Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State on Monday,
the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has said it was sure that
none of its governors will heed the invitation extended to them by
the opposition.
A high-powered
delegation of the
APC led by General Muhammadu Buhari and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed
Tinubu had last week met with the governors of Jigawa, Adamawa
and Kano – Sule Lamido, Murtala Nyako and Rabiu Kwankwaso
respectively, in their bid to woo the aggrieved governors to dump
the ruling party for APC.
But the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr.
Abdulahi Jalo, accused the APC of starting what he described as a
“campaign” when the Independent National Electoral Commission,
INEC, had yet to lift ban on political activities in the country.
He said, “This is a clear breach of the Electoral Act and we hope
that the INEC and the security agencies are aware of this.
“The leaders of the APC should retrace their steps and stop this
campaign. They should stop trampling on the magnanimity of the
President.”
On Gov. Nyako, who has insisted on joining the opposition party any
moment from now, Jalo said he would not be sanctioned as he was
an important member of the PDP.
He said, “This is because it is these people who went to him and
started persuading him to leave our party. It was not the governor
that went to them.
“What I know is that the peace process is not over yet. Our
President and the President still want him in the party. They are
very important in our party. We don’t want to lose them”.
