Tough Christmas for the video makers
Within two days top video directors, Sesan
Ogunro and Moe Musa, lose their fathers in
tragic circimstances, writes Jayne Augoye
At times, when tragedy occurs, it comes with
some form of irony. Take for instance the
tragic deaths that befell two Nigerian
entertainment families, the Ogunros and
Musas, this week – just a few days to
Christmas.
Although the patriarchs of the affected
families passed away a day apart, on December
21 and 22 respectively, the fact that the sons
of the deceased Moe and Sesan are both
popular music video directors, based in the UK,
makes the coincidence uncanny.
Besides the fact that both video makers also
shot the music videos of David O’s hit,
Skelewu, independently, they are also vying
for the Headies Award in the Best Video
Category. While Sesan is gunning for the prize
for his D’banj Oliver Twist video, Moe is
counting on his Wizkid’s Azonto video.
Sesan has worked with the likes of Banky W,
Wizkid, Davido, Iyanya, Dbanj and May D. Moe
Musa clinets on the other hand include
Although Sesan has tweeted very little or
nothing since his father’s death on Twitter, he
has had to debunk the story making the rounds
that he was the one who was shot. This is not
unconnected to the fact that he shares the
same name as his late dad. Mr. Sesan Ogunro
(Snr) who was shot by armed robbers.
He is also united in grief with Musa whose
father passed in a horrific fire accident at
this point in time.
Moe tweeted, “Still can’t believe it, such a
sudden accident and now your gone, just like
that. This is my father and he passed away
yesterday morning in Nigeria due to a horrific
accident. May your Soul Rest in Eternal peace.
Love You Dad #CherishedEveryMoment‘, Moe
Musa wrote on his Instagram page as he
posted a photo of himself and his dad.
Both video directors, exchanged banters on
Twitter whilst asking similar rhetorical
questions borne out of deep retrospection.
Musa had earlier tweeted, “What is going on
with the world?’’ minutes after announcing his
father’s death. In response, Sesan tweeted
back, “What is going on with the world?. I
wanna ask the same question. Hmmmm.”
Meanwhile, Beat Fm’s On Air Personality, Fade
Ogunro, has also paid a glowing tribute to her
late father, Mr. Sesan Ogunro, on her
Instagram and Twitter accounts.
Fade’s moving piece read, “In all situations
give thanks. I’ve lost my father and it is hard
for me to be thankful. But, dad, when I heard
that even as you were dying you prayed for
forgiveness for the robbers that shot you, I
know you are in heaven. For that I give thanks.
Thank you Jesus for looking after my father,
heaven needs him. I love you dad.”
Other showbiz personalities have since been
paying tributes to the late advertising guru,
Ogunro.
Fummi Iyanda’s tweet read, “In shock at the
awful news of Mr Sesan Ogunro senior’s death
by armed robbery. He was a brilliant advert
man and creative. We are all sitting ducks.”
Video director, Kemi Adetiba, tweeted at
Musa, saying, “Sending love as well to
@MrMoemusa who lost his father yesterday.
Words are useless at a time like this, but
please accept our condolences.’
Elder Musa has been buried according to
Islamic rites.
