Niger Delta ex-militant leaders on Thursday
urged the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu
Buhari (retd.), to sustain the Presidential
Amnesty Programme of the Federal
Government.
The ex-freedom fighters under the aegis of
Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development
Initiative, however, pledged to support the
incoming administration.
National President, LPCDI, Pastor Reuben
Wilson, while congratulating Buhari on his
victory at the poll, advised him against
abandoning the amnesty programme.
Wilson described the amnesty programme as
the only solution for peace and security in the
Niger Delta region.
He warned that it should not be toyed with by
the incoming administration, adding
there wouldn’t be no peace in the region if the
programme was neglected or abandoned.
Furthermore, Wilson threatened that if Niger
Delta was neglected as it was in the past, the
ex-militants would use all resources at their
disposal to stop the production of oil.
